It happend on June 28th 2000. Surfing the net I came across a quilt site unsuspecting the consequences. Not knowing much about quilts, even less about "squishies","siggies" and "bios" I asked. The answer was: You have to cut 25 different fabrics into 3" squares and add one with a personal signature. 80 of those squishies you have to swap with other swappers all over the world. Then you have to make a giant quilt with those 2000 different squares. My first thought was: That's insane, what an effort. My second thought: What of my own fabrics would be suitable. And then I didn't have any time for thinking, because I had to cut 2000 squares with scissores. At that time, I didn't have a rotary cutter. The swap with women all over the world was a great fun. As a quilt beginner, I got many tips and an insight into a creative tradition. Besides of that, I was impressed by the generousity of the other swappers. I've written that I am a beginner so I got magazines, a little paperpiecing-quilt and a swappartner from the USA sent me a rotary cutter with mat. I was flabbergasted! |
