One of the most perverse methods of obtaining fur is provided by the broadtail Persian. While the normal Persian comes from newborn lambs which are slaughtered as soon as they are born, the "broadtail" version, which is particularly sought-after for jackets and trimmings, comes from unborn lambs. The tiny hides from miscarriages, premature births and unborn lambs which are cut out of the pregnant mother sheep (killing the mother sheep in the process) are especially valuable because they do not display the typical natural crimp.
